Their car broke down and Will burned the car with Tom’s body in it and he continued his journey alone. He gets a car from a family in exchange for them staying at Will’s father’s house.

Jeremiah helped Sam a lot during this difficult time and he has fallen in love with her. So he tried to kill Will but got killed in self-defense by Will. Will and Sam saved themselves from the pyroclastic flow.
