You can use the tickets to enter the names of each player, add players, then assign characters as you are ready.
Multiplayer in House of Ashes works in two ways. Players can swap their controllers if they are playing in the same room or take turns online. Setting up a multiplayer session with House of Ashes can be challenging, especially if the ticket UI is not straightforward. These are the steps to play multiplayer:
- Choose Don’t Play Alone
- If you have friends in the same room, select Movie Night or Shared Story.
- Choose a New Story
- Choose a slot
- To the first ticket, add Player 1’s name
- To the second ticket, add Player 2’s name
To add more players, the third ticket can be used.
- To assign characters, select the last ticket marked “Ready”.
- Each player can choose which character they will control, or click the appropriate button to auto assign.
- The bottom ticket, labelled Ready to Start the House of Ashes coop story, can be used
How multiplayer works in House of Ashes
House of Ashes is not like other multiplayer games. You don’t have to play together at once. Instead, you will play with your fellow players in turn. The game will stop and let you know which player is allowed to play. You can pass the controller to the other player and make sure they make the right decisions that will keep the characters alive. Online, you can wait for the other player’s control.
Although playing House of Ashes in co-op is simple, the setup process can be a little confusing at first. Once you have mastered multiplayer and all the details, you can start working with your friends to survive. For more information on Supermassive Games, visit the Shacknews House of Ashes Page.

What’s the basis of House of Ashes?
House of Ashes was inspired by Naram-Sin (an ancient Mesopotamian ruler cursed and his kingdom of Akkad). One Mesopotamian legend describes Naram Sin as disrespecting one god by plundering his temple. This caused famine, drought and disease in Naram Sin’s kingdom.
