Where is Dwayne Johnson’s Mom?
Dwayne Johnson’s maternal grandmother, Ata Johnson, was born Feagaimaleata Fitisemanu Maivia on the night of October 25, 1948, in Hawaii. Ata’s mother, Ofelia “Lia” Fuataga, was later married to professional Samoan-American wrestler Peter Fanene Maivia AKA “High Chief.” Ata comes from an extensive wrestling family and is a member of the Anoai wrestling family. Although her father Peter had been a promoter and wrestler in the ‘National Wrestling Association’ in Hawaii, her mother was recognized for being among the first women wrestlers to promote. After Peter’s passing around 1982, Lia was appointed the head of Polynesian Pro Wrestling (PPW) promotion.
Ata was reportedly seen with her husband to be, Rocky Johnson, at an event in which Rocky was said to be wrestling with her brother Peter Maivia Jr. The couple got married in 1970, and on May 2 in 1972, they welcomed their only son Dwayne. A few years later, in 2003, Ata, along with Rocky, decided to divorce. But, this didn’t alter Dwayne’s feelings toward his mother, and, over the years, they have maintained a close relationship.
Ata started appearing on TV in the late 1990s, making her debut during an episode of WWE Raw. She was featured on various additional WWE special shows in the following years, such as “WrestleMania XXX” and “WWE SmackDown Live.” Ata also made appearances on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman and ‘Late Show with David Letterman and the documentary series Biography. She also contributed her voice for the documentary film titled “The Last Matai.’
Following her divorce in 2003, Ata Johnson chose not to marry again but seemed to have chosen to spend time with her children and her grandchildren. In 2020, the news broke the fact that the late Rocky “Soulman” Johnson had passed died.
The real-life persona of the Young Rock has finally realized the character’s dream and gave his mother a home. In 2018, Dwayne Johnson shared on social media that he bought his mother a new home. In a different post, the former wrestler and actor admitted that he bought his mom the luxury of a Cadillac (which, if the show is true, is the car Ata loved during her earlier times). Incredibly, Ata is even a character in the ‘Young Rock’ season 2.
Presently, Ata mainly enjoys spending time with her grandkids, Simone Alexandra, Tiana Gia, and Jasmine Johnson and listening to Samoa Radio. She was 72 when she celebrated her birthday in October 2020, with her son and two granddaughters (Jasmine and Tiana). Although it is not confirmed, Ata likely splits her time between Miami and Los Angeles, the latter being where Dwayne Johnson is based with his wife and two daughters.
